In “Little Things in Friendship,” Anthony Coleman reflects on the small acts of care that help meaningful friendships grow and endure.
The little things are important in friendship. They carry different meanings for us. A thoughtful word of praise, support, encouraging a friend’s dream, and simply the time to just listen.
The little things, such as vulnerabilities, spiritual and mental health, goals, and decision-making—which most overlook—friends concern themselves with. Real friendships thrive even when things aren’t easy. Little things are noticed and appreciated when they are reciprocated.
A friend will find happiness in your happiness, because to have it, you are constantly reinforcing the little things. It is important to understand the significance of the little things. When your friend’s life, health, and purpose are as important as your own, the friendship is unbreakable and will endure, because the little things are the glue for longevity.
Little things comfort, support, motivate, encourage, and guide platonic love. Display faithfulness in little things and in little ways. Little things add up and become much when given out of unselfish love.
The motive is not to call attention to ourselves, but to show we care. We will reap the reward of knowing that we were true in the little things that build friendship.
If we desire enthusiasm in the little things, we will approach it with our whole heart. When you find sincere gratitude, you’ll find enjoyment in the little things.
