For almost two decades I’ve shunned sites such as these, feeling lost in a system which forces complete isolation from the rest of the world. This is a lonely existence which leads one to abandon society, while at the same time secretly craving acceptance and inclusion.
Almost a decade had to pass within these walls before I matured enough to actively seek to educate and evolve myself. I could not, and did not, achieve this goal on my own. It was only due to the selfless friendship of others that I was able to make any significant changes.
I now have an Associates Degree from Lake Land College and am attending Danville Area Community College, from whom I will soon receive an Associate Degree in Art. I am also participating in the Education Justice Project which is administered and directed through the University of Illinois. I have also just begun a Bachelor Degree program through Eastern Illinois University.
As a writer, artist and humanitarian, I understand that success can only be achieved by working in concert with the people around you. As I look to the future, and my reentry into society, I recognize that only by introducing myself back into the world can I hope to achieve my dreams for the future.
I owe my success thus far to the care and attention of friends in here. After nearly eighteen years I’m ready to expand beyond the comfort that these four walls have become and am looking for friends who are open, bold, and driven. Asking for your friendship is asking you to be selfless, for by choosing to reach out you will be choosing to be charitable, caring and curious. Join me on my journey, and let’s traverse the world together.
